Cool Yeah

In 1994, four student musicians were at a garage sale. A ¼" reel to reel player for $5.00 caught their collective eye. The owner asked if they would be interested in the box of reels he had for $1.50, they were reluctant, secondarily because they were used but primarily because they only had $5.49 between them.

The owner threw in the tapes marked "Surfin' Chet Kline WDGY commercials April 1968-1971" for the .49 he told them because he wanted to make room in his garage.

When they played these tapes, memories of going to the lake ensued and they remembered summers of hearing these commercial jingles before in the North Woods of MN on car stereos and cheap AM radios. There was more in these tapes, much more. Songs wonderfully woven as only master wordsmith, guitarist and jingle writer, Chet Kline that had nothing to do with rural radio ads selling local and national products. These were real songs written straight to the point, (the longest in these sessions is 1:32 total running time.) written in the language known well to these musicians, these songs were Rock and Roll.

Each of these musicians was stunned by these unheard recordings of this local legend of AM radio fame and listened wrapped in awe. As smiles erupted on all of their stunned faces with each bar, measure and movement, the only words that were spoken were, "Cool," and in agreement "Yeah".

They proceeded to re-record these songs in a grain silo. No one has heard from them since........Until now.
